Rev. Paul Luther Steffens

 – Rev. Paul Luther, 14th generation descendant of the Reformer Martin Luther. This wonderful servant of God went home peacefully to be with his Savior on Saturday 1/7/12. Born in Nyack, NY on July 1, 1927 to parents Rev. Karl and Hilda Steffens, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps and also became a pastor. He founded the Syosset Gospel Church in 1957 which he pastored for over 50 years. Together with his wife Florence, they began and administered the Christian Fellowship House home for adults in 1962. Both the Church and the Christian Fellowship House are still serving the community by preaching the Gospel and assisting the elderly. This is a tradition begun by his father in 1946 when the family moved from Brooklyn to Huntington to open the Birchwood Nursing Home. Following the foundational teachings of his ancestor Martin Luther (1483-1546)of Wittenberg, Germany, Paul continued the Reformation and Biblical truth of “jusification by faith” and not by works. The family grieves the loss of this gentle, faithful follower of Jesus Christ. We grieve but as the apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 “not as others who have no hope.” This hope of course is based on the Biblical truth preached by Paul Luther Steffens his entire ministry, that through the death and resurrection of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, “death is swallowed up in victory.” He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Florence, younger brother James Steffens, his children Paul and Mark Steffens and Pamela Horvath. He has 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. We wait patiently for our heavenly reunion at the feet of Jesus. A celebration/memorial service with closed casket will be held at the Syosset Gospel Church, 266 Jackson Ave. Syosset on Tuesday 1/10 at 7:00 p.m. Burial at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery will be on Wednesday 1/11 following a short service at 10 a.m. also at the Syosset Gospel Church. In lieuf flowers, donations in his memory can be made to either the Syosset Gospel Church or the Christian Fellowship Home, 369 Split Rock Rd. Syosset, NY 11791 For more information call the Church office at 516-921-2788.
